Nomination Details

1. ELIGIBILITY

  • Nominated projects must be within the territorial boundary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and must possess Occupation Permit or a proof final stage of construction status or a Works Completion Certification by the Project Owners’ at or in-between 1 August 2022 and 31 July 2025.
  • For project only nominated to take part in the Award of Excellent Design Framework, the design shall be carried out during the designated period of time, and it must possess Detail Design Approval or equivalent document; and
  • Each eligible building project can only be nominated by one applicant.

*Those Projects had obtained their Special Awards (SA) or Design Framework Award (DF) in the previous Award are not eligible to apply the same SA or DF with respectively in this Award

2. CATEGORIES 

The Award welcomes the applications by residential, commercial, industrial and other types of building, construction, A&A and renovation projects which contribute ESG excellencies to our building society. The candidates will play apart in two major categories separately:

  • A. New Build
  • B. Existing Building (Alternation & Amendment / Renovation)
    The candidates will enter this Award selection by going through the nomination procedures as described in Sections 6.

3. AWARDS

  • A. Year of the Excellent Award
    • Only ONE “Year of the Excellent Building Award” will be presented to the BEST performing Grand Award Winner upon the evaluation by Jury Panel.
  • B. "Grand" Award
    • Grand Award will be entitled to the excellent performing projects from the Finalists of each category,
    • Jury Panel will review the markings and evaluate the score level to recognize the entitlement of Grand Awards, and
    • The marking will be ground on the basic foci outlined in Section 5 which subject the Jury Panel review and finalization.
  • C. Finalist 
    • ALL nominations will be reviewed by the same Marking Scheme for screening of finalists,
    • The List of Finalist will be reviewed and confirmed by the Jury Panel, and
    • Certificate of Finalist of this Award will be provided by the Organizing Committee on behalf of the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers – Building Services Division upon the confirmation.
  • D. Special Awards

** Organizing Committee reserves the right not to bestow an award if the Jury Panel deems that no nomination is worth receiving that particular award. The decision of the Jury Panel shall be final.

*** Finalist qualification will be usurped if the project team is unable to present at the Finalist Presentation to Jury Panel.

4. Excellent Design Framework

Excellent Design Framework Award is a new separate extension in New Build Category which developed in 2026 Session. This Award aims to explore more creative and excellent design practices applied to a project. The design nominated to this Award shall be mature enough to demonstrate its buildability but not necessary must be a fully completed by full project sense, otherwise if the project had reached the substantial completion stage, then it is recommended to take part in the SA or Year of Excellent Award nomination, such that the design nominated should have reached a detailed design approval stage. This Award will be evaluated separately as according to their achievements in Environment enhancement, Social Contribution and Governance Advancement, Building Envelope Design, Interior Space Design and application of advanced technology / innovations for their projects.

**** Organizing Committee reserves the right not to bestow an award if the Jury Panel deems that no nomination is worth receiving that particular award. The decision of the Assessment Panel shall be final.

***** Finalist qualification will be usurped if the project team is unable to present at the Finalist Presentation to Jury Panel.

5. Assessment Criteria and Marking Scheme for Excellent Design Framework

The evaluation of the design framework nominated will be based on the following foci and each is equally weighted for the contribution to the final score.

6. NOMINATION

NOMINATION FEE

A non-refundable Nomination Fee of HK$6,000 is required for all entries.

PROMOTION FEE

Promotion fee will be collected on top of the nomination fee for media promotion, exhibition and trophy production for all winners.

• Excellent Design Framework Award HK$20,000
• Finalist HK$10,000

NOMINATION DOCUMENTS

  1. Payment cheque for nomination fee HK$6,000 made payable to “The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers – BS Division”; and
  2. Duly filled and signed Nomination Form
    (******Please submit the soft copy by email first. And a hard copy of signed nomination form (Page 7-10) needed to be sent by mail to our secretariat office. Address as below:

  3. Digital Copy of Occupation Permit
    Copy of Occupation Permit, copy of Completion Certificate or copy of acknowledgement of practical completion, as appropriate;
  4. Digital copies of competition materials including text and supporting materials, in English.
    (**For security purpose, an exclusive link will be provided for uploading all digital materials once nomination form has received)

Guidelines on competition materials are:

  • (a) Name and full postal address of the nominated project;
  • (b) Names of the applicants, building services and structural engineering firm, client/developer, architect, lead contractor and facilities manager;
  • (c) A minimum of 6 project photos;
  • (d) Synopsis in not more than 10,000 words composing:
    • (i) an executive summary outlining the excellences achieved;
    • (ii) an outline of the project features with respective to the Special Award criteria; and
    • (iii) an outline of particular features of the project that would like to draw the Jury Panel’s special attention.

Terms and Conditions:

  • Organizing Committee of The Excellent Building Award 2026 reserves the ultimate right to make final decision on the eligibility of all entries.
  • Organizing Committee accepts no liability for any inaccurate information contained within the submitted entry as it is the responsibility of the applicant to provide accurate information.
  • If an award is given and found to be due to any false or misleading information from the applicant, Organizing Committee reserves the right to withdraw the award given.
  • Decision of the Jury Panel is final. No discussion or correspondence will be entertained.
  • Project teams of all short-listed entries are required to submit a presentation PowerPoint and conduct a presentation to the Jury Panel.
  • Organizing Committee reserves the right to use entry material submitted to publish in the promotion media, unless requested by the entrant not to.

About the Award

The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers – Building Services Division is serving the building society up to our 40th anniversary upon 2026. We are committed to promote the advancement and exchange of technical information and ideas among members and other related societies. The Hong Kong Institution of Hong Kong Engineers – Building Services Division Excellent Building Award (Award) is also a succession of our 1st of this Award launched at 2023. We wish this Award will continually stimulate the passion and desire of our Hong Kong building society to achieve Excellences in the future. The Award is a platform to show off the building projects and their building services adopted to achieve their outstanding performance in the last THREE YEARS. Those are believed our milestones and lights up the direction to reach out another horizon of extraordinary achievements in the next future.
